GAP - in a series of senior management shake-ups - has "eliminated" Rebekka Bay's role of creative director, resulting in her immediate dismissal.

"I would personally like to thank Rebekka for her passion and the creative processes she's brought to the brand," said Gap's global brand president Jeff Kirwan, revealing that the in-house design team would take over creating the retailer's various collections. "She has helped develop a dynamic design team, some of the best creative talent in the industry, and I'm confident that our strong bench of senior designers will see the brand into its next phase."

Bay has been at Gap since September 2012, following a year's hiatus of having a creative director at the helm, after Patrick Robinson's departure in May 2011 when he was dismissed in a similar fashion.

At the same time as announcing her departure - which is "effective immediately" - the brand also announced the internal promotion of Scott Key to senior vice president and general manager of customer experience.

"Now's the time to intensify our customer focus and breakthrough with a truly dynamic and integrated approach to building relationships with our customers," continued Kirwan. "Scott will help us bring together our marketing and digital expressions so each interaction with our customers is consistent and compelling. It's a customer-first approach that reflects how people shop today."
